The LVASA-SRS project makes data available to qualified researchers, institutions, and policy partners to support high-quality research and evidence-based decision-making.
About the Data
The Lagos State Verbal and Social Autopsy, Sample Registration System (LVASA-SRS) project is a sample registration system aimed to track and estimate pregnancies, livebirths, stillbirths and maternal death in the State. This system also utilizes the verbal autopsy and social autopsy methods to understand the social, cultural and health system factors that contribute to these deaths.
Over the period of 24 months, it has collected local government area data on pregnant women, livebirths, still births, maternal deaths and causes of death from 1,911 enumeration areas, surveying a total of 127,000 households between the period 2023 to 2025. Data collection was done using the kobocollect.

Who Can Apply
Applications are open to researchers affiliated with recognized academic, government, or research institutions.
Terms of Use
All approved users must:
- Use the data only for the approved purpose
Not attempt to identify individuals or communities
Not share the data with third parties without written permission
Acknowledge LVASA-SRS in all outputs: “Data were provided by the LVASA-SRS project, [institution/funder].”
Share a copy of any resulting publication with the project team
Data Protection and Ethics
The project is approved by HREC No: ADM/DCST/HREC/APP/644 and LREC/06/10/2397. All data are de-identified, and access is governed by the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and the project’s data sharing policy.
