LVASA SRS

About LVASA-SRS

The LVASA-SRS is championed by the Lagos State Government in collaboration with researchers from Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).

The LVASA-SRS project will implement a Sample Registration System (SRS) that utilises Verbal Autopsy and Social Autopsy (VASA) methods. This is a 2-phase project that will generate reliable estimates for maternal deaths, and stillbirths in Lagos State as well as determine the social, cultural, and health system factors that contribute to these deaths.

The first phase of data collection will focus on retrospective data of births including live births, maternal deaths, and stillbirths that have occurred in the year preceding the start of the study while the second phase will be a prospective estimation of maternal deaths and stillbirths that occur over twelve months from year 2024
